The Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, together with members of the Board, has paid a working visit to the International Maritime Hospital (IMaH) in Tema as part of an ongoing inspection of GPHA facilities.

The visit formed part of the Board’s familiarisation tour aimed at acquainting themselves with the operations, performance and challenges of the world-class medical facility owned by the Authority.

During the visit, the Chief Executive Officer of IMaH, Dr. Vitus Victor Anaab-Bisi, delivered a detailed presentation highlighting key actions undertaken by management since assuming office in June 2025 to reposition the hospital.

He said that in order to improve service delivery, management has formed a Quality Improvement Team and increased staff capacity by hiring nine key professionals. Every employee has received training in quality improvement, and in an effort to fortify relationships, corporate client engagement has increased.

Dr. Anaab-Bisi added that corrective maintenance had been performed on vital equipment, such as the oxygen plant, CSSD equipment, dialysis machine, OPG machine, dental chairs, and minimally invasive laparoscopic equipment, and that the hospital’s tariffs had been examined to guarantee competitiveness. Additionally, the hospital has improved its prestige services and operationalized two obstetrics and gynecology theaters.

He also mentioned that among other initiatives, some IMaH have undergone training in laparoscopic surgery, introduced financial ring-fencing for critical asset replacement and maintenance, and implemented innovative sustainability measures such as harvesting wastewater from dialysis for irrigation of lawns. The hospital also touts itself as one of the beneficiary hospitals under the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), popularly known as “Mahama Cares.”

Responding after the presentation, the GPHA board chairman, Mr. Aseidu Nketiah assured the management and staff of IMaH that the Board had taken note of their concerns and would give them the needed attention.

He commended management for the efforts made to improve service delivery and urged staff to continue to give off their best in the discharge of their duties in order to save lives.
The Board members were subsequently taken on a guided tour of the facility, where they inspected key departments and equipment as part of efforts to gain first-hand insight into the hospital’s operations.

The visit underscores the GPHA Board’s commitment to strengthening institutional facilities and ensuring that the International Maritime Hospital continues to deliver quality healthcare services to port workers and the wider public.
