As trauma and emergency cases continue to present significant challenges within Ghana’s healthcare system, continuous learning and collaboration among healthcare professionals have become more important than ever.

In response to the growing need for timely and effective trauma care, the International Maritime Hospital (IMaH) recently hosted an Emergency Trauma Management Update Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Workshop for healthcare professionals drawn from hospitals and clinics across Tema Municipality and its environs.

The workshop brought together over ninety (90) doctors, nurses, physician assistants and other healthcare practitioners from various healthcare institutions in-person and over four hundred (400) participants online, providing a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, skills enhancement and the exchange of best practices in emergency and trauma management.

Participants benefited from expert-led presentations and interactive discussions on key areas of emergency care, including trauma assessment, airway management, emergency stabilization, management of head and spinal injuries, management of maxillofacial injuries, chest and abdominal trauma, genitourinary injuries and multidisciplinary approaches to managing critically ill and injured patients. The sessions aimed to update participants on current best practices while reinforcing the importance of prompt intervention and coordinated response in improving patient outcomes.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Kissi Dompreh-Ofori, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of IMaH, emphasized the importance of investing in continuous professional development and fostering collaboration among healthcare institutions.

“Excellence in healthcare is built through continuous learning, teamwork, discipline and preparedness. Effective trauma management requires seamless collaboration across the healthcare chain, and through initiatives such as this, we are strengthening emergency care delivery and improving outcomes for the patients and communities we serve.” he said.

The workshop also served as an opportunity for healthcare professionals from different institutions to network, share experiences and strengthen partnerships aimed at advancing the quality of emergency and trauma care delivery within the municipality and beyond.

The initiative reflects IMaH ‘s commitment not only to delivering quality healthcare, but also to contributing to the continuous development of healthcare professionals and supporting efforts to build a stronger, more responsive and resilient healthcare system.

Together, we continue to build capacity, enhance preparedness, and improve the quality of emergency care for the benefit of all.
